Wilmington Country Club will be packed with golfers next Monday for a new tournament in benefit of the Beau Biden Foundation for the protection of Children. This will be the first event supporting this nonprofit organization which was created to carry on the work of the late attorney general.
Around 50 foursomes have already been scheduled for both courses. Golf registration has closed for the first Beau Biden Memorial Invitation. However, there is still room at a $200 cocktail reception at the country club at 5 p.m. on Oct, 26. Fred Sears, president of the Delaware Community Foundation, which administers the Biden group, says that sponsorship opportunities remain available.
Sears said response has been overwhelming for the event. “People stepped up,” Sears said. “It really is impressive.”
Beau Biden’s widow Hallie has created the Beau Biden Foundation in June. The nonprofit has already raised $600,000 without a single event, and money remaining in the Biden’s campaign accounts will also be used to support the group.
This golf tournament promises to provide another important boost for the foundation. The organizers hope it will become an annual event.
“We couldn’t squeeze another person in (the golf course),” said Ron Olivere, Hallie Biden’s father and a longtime Biden family friend who is helping organize. “We want this to be pleasant. We want to do it next year.”
